University

  • Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University - Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) is the only medical university in Bangladesh. Before April 30, 1998, it was called the Institute of Postgraduate Medicine and Research (IPGM&R). IPGM&R started in 1965 with an aim to providing postgraduate medical education in Bangladesh. It was then a Government-controlled institute. The university now is autonomous governed by a syndicate comprising 24 members. It comprises of 31 Departments under 4 faculties.
  • Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University - The goal of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University(BSMRAU) is to contribute the growth and development of the farm economy in Bangladesh by providing intellectual leadership and by producing quality graduates at the M.S. and Ph.D. Level. BSMRAU strengthens its postgraduate education and research programs with an outreach program designed to in improve the economic wellbeing of farmers and to accelerate rural development.
  • Bangladesh Agricultural University - Bangladesh Agricultural University is 4 kilometer south of the Mymensingh town and occupied 1200 Acres areas by the side of Old Brahamputra river. It consists of 6 faculties and 41 departments. Among them, 8 departments belong the faculty of Veterinary Science, 15 belong to Agriculture, 5 belong to Animal Husbandry, 5 belong to Ari-Econ & Rural Sociology, 4 belong to Agri-Engineering & Technology and 4 belong to Fisheries faculty.
  • Bangladesh Open University - The Bangladesh Open Universities an institution for distance education designed for those who intend to improve upon the level of their education or professional skills by studying at home or at places of their work. It meets the need for education of all classes of people particularly those deprived of education in conventional institutions.
  • Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology - Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, abbreviated as BUET, is one of the most prestigious institutions for higher studies in the country. About five thousand students are pursuing undergraduate and post-graduate studies in engineering, architecture, planning and science in this institution. The total number of teachers is over four hundred.
  • Chittagong University - The Chittagong University was established in 1966 in the acenic hilly regions of Chittagong, Bangladesh endeared with the natural flora and fauna. It has boomed to a larger extent with 6 individual faculties, 28 departments, 3 institutes and 2 Research Centres catering to the needs about 15 thousand students of different disciplines and researches and others advanced fields.
  • Dhaka University - The Dhaka University, known as Oxford of Bengal was established in 1921 as a unitary teaching and residential University. It showed its great achievements during the era of British, Pakistan and Bangladesh period.
  • Independent University, Bangladesh - The Independent University of Bangladesh is dedicated to providing a stable and orderly atmosphere in which students may pursue a challenging academic life without distraction and disruption. The IUB offers courses in Business studies, Communication and Environmental Studies
  • International University of Business Agriculture and Technology - IUBAT International University of Business Agriculture and Technology is a non government university established in Bangladesh. IUBAT is geared to effectively contribute to agro economic, technological and social development of Bangladesh.
  • Islamic Institute of Technology - Islamic Institute of Technology (IIT) at Dhaka, Bangladesh, a subsidiary organ of the OIC, is basically an educational and research institution offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate academic programs of one to four years’ duration conducted in the fields of engineering, computer science and teacher training.
  • Islamic University - The Islamic University has been established for the combination and co-ordination of different branches of education of Humanities and modern science with the Islamic Education and promote research on modern branches of education in Bangladesh.
  • Jahangirnagar University - The Jahangirnagar University was formally launched on 12 January 1970 in Savar, Bangladesh. It has three faculties and one institute.
  • Khulna University - Khulna University has been established, in order to cater to the growing educational needs of the Bangladesh, with different Schools such as Science and Technology. Life Science, Management and Business Administration, Social Science, Arts and Humanities, Law, Education and an Institute of Fine Arts.
  • National University - The National University was established in 1992 with features distinct from those of the traditional Universities of the Bangladesh. It grew out of the exigencies of time who most of the Universities were encumbered with unwieldy roll strength, menaced by student unrest and bard-pressed to see to their obligations towards the affiliated college, which bore the bulk of tertiary education in the country.
  • North South University - The North South University (NSU) is the first and largest accredited private university in Bangladesh. NSU provides an intellectually challenging and practical education, set within a creative and motivating environment for students to learn and grow.
  • Rajshahi University - Rajshahi University, the second largest University in Bangladesh and is the highest seat of learning in the Northern region of the country.
  • Shahjalal University of Science and Technology - The Shahjalal University of Science & Technology was initiated in 1987, in Sylhet, Bangladesh. Now there are 13 departments under these three faculties namely School of Physical Sciences, School of Applied Sciences & Technology and School of Social Sciences. Besides, the university has 3 affiliated medical colleges under the School of Medical Science and one affiliated Veterinary College under the School of Life Sciences.
  • University Grants Commission of Bangladesh - The University Grants Commission of Bangladesh is the apex body of all the Government Funded Universities. The underlying principle is that the Government should not deal directly with the Universities, either individually or collectively: instead, it should deal with the UGC which, in turn, deals directly with the Universities.
